Mayo councillor Ger Deere has raised concerns over vandalised life buoys.

The Fine Gael politician posted: "Disappointed & Concerned. Over the weekend, several life buoys along the Greenway have been thrown into the river. This is not only disrespectful to our community but also extremely dangerous."

"These life-saving devices are there for a reason! They could be the difference between life and death in an emergency. With the river running high at the moment, they are absolutely essential and must be respected at all times."

Tampering with or removing a life buoy isn’t a harmless prank or Halloween fun but a reckless action that puts real lives at risk.

Deere asked everyone to take pride in their shared spaces, look out for one another, and report any misuse immediately.

"Lifebuoys save lives!" the councillor concluded.
