Mayo cyclist set to race on international stage in France

Abi Conway, of Westport Covey Wheelers, will be part of Team Ireland at the UEC Road European Championships

Mayo cycling sensation Abi Conway is set to take on the next challenge of her fledgling cycling career today (Wednesday, October 1) when she takes to the roads of Drôme in France for the UEC Road European Championships.

The Westport Covey Wheelers woman has undergone a meteoric rise, with the most recent jewel in her crown being her appearance for Team Ireland at the Rás na mBán in Kilkenny early last month.

Now, she looks set to display her talents in the South-East of France, linking up with the Irish Under-23 team at the UEC Road Championships.

The four-day route from Drôme to Ardèche will test some of the best riders on the continent, who are competing for major honours.

The first leg of the event, a 12.2-kilometre route between Loriol-Sur-Drôme and ends in Étoile-Sur-Rhône, got underway at 9.30 am local time this morning.
