An Garda Síochána in Mayo yesterday stopped a driver travelling at almost double the speed limit on a road in the county.

On Wednesday, August 13, local Gardaí detected a motorist driving at a speed of 188 kilometers per hour on the N5 between Castlebar and Westport.

The speed limit on this road is 100 km/h.

After the driver was stopped by the Gardaí, they were arrested and charged with dangerous driving. The motorist will now appear before the courts.

"Speeding at this level puts everyone on the road at risk. Slow down. Drive safe. Arrive alive," An Garda Síocháne wrote on their Facebook page.
