Brendán O’Neill will be in Westport for the marathon series in aid of Focus Ireland on Monday, August 18
This weekend will see a unique and inspiring fundraiser hit the roads of Mayo, as one man takes the next leg of his fascinating endeavour to run 32 marathons in as many days.
Kerryman Brendán O’Neill is taking on one of Ireland’s most ambitious endurance challenges — running a marathon in every single county in consecutive days. His mission is part of a heartfelt effort to raise awareness and funds for Focus Ireland in the fight against homelessness.
On Monday, August 18, Brendán will arrive in Westport for his Mayo marathon, which is day 27 of a relentless schedule that will see him cover over 1,350km without a single rest day.
Locals are encouraged to join him for the final kilometres or turn out in support as he runs through the town.
For Brendán, this journey began not with the idea of personal glory, but with a simple question:
“How can I use what I’ve built — strength, discipline, endurance — to help others?”
Earlier this year, he completed a grueling 100km run in one day to raise funds for the Irish Heart Foundation. That feat raised over €2,700 and proved to him that running could be a powerful tool for change.
Now, he’s scaling up in his mammoth efforts, with a goal of raising over €32,000 for Focus Ireland.
When Brendán hits Westport’s streets, it won’t just be another marathon.
Mayo, with its strong tradition of community spirit and hospitality, offers a solid backdrop for the campaign’s message, that homelessness is not just a city problem.
Rural counties face rising housing pressures too, and Focus Ireland’s work extends nationwide.
The Westport leg will give locals a chance to be part of this heartening endeavour and to send Brendán towards his final counties with the encouragement he needs.
Brendán invites runners, walkers, and supporters to join him for the last 5–10km of the Westport marathon.
The Kerry native has set an ambitious target of raising €32,000 for Focus Ireland, and is well on his way to reaching the goal, with €8,803 in the kitty at the time of writing. Those who wish to donate to this worthy cause can do so by clicking here, with donations closing on Tuesday, September 30.
