ALERT: Major Mayo road set for closure over course of fortnight

The N5 between Castlebar and Westport is due to undergo closures.

It has been confirmed that one of Mayo’s busiest routes is set for major closures, which will take place over the course of a fortnight.

Mayo County Council confirmed via a statement that a circa-20 kilometre stretch of the N5 between Westport and Castlebar is due to close in order to facilitate grass cutting along the road verge.

This closure is due to take place between the hours of 7pm and 6am between Monday, July 14, and Sunday, July 27 for up to five nights.

The stretch of road will start at the R5/R309 in Turlough, and continue along the dual carriageway as far as the roundabout outside Westport.

Diversions will be in place for the duration of the grass cutting, and all traffic will be diverted onto the R309, also known as the old N5. All diversions will be clearly signposted, both by the Council and An Garda Síochána. Full details are available at the link below.
