Saoirse Reynolds was among the goal scorers in the first edition of the girl's tournament with the Republic of Ireland girls praised for their performances in wins over the Isle of Mann and Jersey and Northern Ireland. They played Northern Ireland in the final which was played on Sunday and they completed the double with a hard-fought 3-1 win.
After going behind early, they showed good character under pressure, playing some of their best football in the second half to turn the game around.
“On and off the pitch, they’ve been outstanding – not just in performance, but in attitude and spirit. The level of appreciation, positivity, and togetherness within the group has been clear throughout. Simply a great bunch of young players,” the Schoolboys/girls Football Association of Ireland posed on its Facebook page.
Westport-based councillor Brendan Mulroy congratulated both Jane and Saoirse on their outstanding success over the weekend and for representing Ireland and Mayo with such distinction.
