The people of Westport will be celebrating another badge of honour, as the Mayo town ranked highly in the newest batch of An Taisce reports on behalf of Irish Business Against Litter reports.
The latest survey from the company saw Westport rank very highly, being placed in the category of ‘Clean to European Norms’.
The town ranked 14th out of a list of 40 towns in the area, between Letterkenny and Ballybeg.
Among the many sites which were singled out for praise by An Taisce were the approach routes to the town, Abbvie Industrial Estate, the Deposit Return Scheme area at the town’s Lidl store, and the green space at ‘The Bog Field’.
It wasn’t all positive for the town, though, as was outlined in the report from the organisation.
“It’s a number of years since Westport was last included in the IBAL survey, but the high rankings in previous years have been sustained, with six out of the ten sites getting the top litter grade,” the report stated.
The survey also found that main streets, in the main, were kept to a satisfactory standard, while areas for improvement were generally bus/train stations and recycling facilities.
