FOR the first time in 26 years, a Mayo group has triumphed at the All-Ireland Drama Festival. St Patrick’s Drama Group from Westport were recently crowned national champions with their powerful and critically acclaimed production of ‘Woman and Scarecrow’ by Marina Carr.
The group blazed through the drama circuit, winning six qualifying festivals before ultimately securing the All-Ireland title. This marks the first national victory for a Mayo group since Garrymore’s landmark win in 1999.
Major awards included Seamas Cafferky (Best Director), Alannah Ní Mhíocháin (Best Actress), Jamie O’Neill (Best Lighting), and a Best Actress nomination for Martina Ryan. The cast also featured Colette McGinty, with Cafferky pulling double duty as both director and performer.

The production was brought to life by a dedicated and talented team: Micki Hansberry (sound), Danny McNamara (set), Nicole Gannon (live music), Alice Burns (stage manager), and Sinéad Brogan, whose haunting vocals added a memorable emotional layer to the performance.
To celebrate this remarkable achievement, St Patrick’s Drama Group will stage one final performance of their award-winning play this evening Wednesday, May 21 at 8pm in Westport Town Hall Theatre.
