Jim Faulkner and neighbours were ‘amazed and delighted’ to see the fallen telephone poll fixed and their gardens free of the fallen wires on Monday morning.

Jim and his neighbours spoke to The Mayo News last week about the ‘extreme distress’ the delay was causing them, especially as some of the wires had become a tripping hazard.

In response to queries from The Mayo News, Eir said it "would like to sincerely apologise for the delay in the restoration of service in the St Mary’s Crescent area of Westport.”

“We are pleased to confirm that the new poles have now been installed, and service will be reinstated as soon as possible," the largest provider of fixed-line and mobile telecommunications services in Ireland went on to say.

It said that the fixing of the telephone pole and wires “was highly complex, involving the replacement of telecommunication poles and extensive cabling work.”

Full eir statement below:

eir would like to sincerely apologise for the delay in the restoration of service in the St Mary’s Crescent area of Westport. This particular restoration project was highly complex, involving the replacement of telecommunication poles and extensive cabling work. Progress was significantly hindered due to limited site access — the poling track was unable to reach the location because of its size. As a result, additional crews were required to manually transport heavy equipment and poles to the site, which extended the timeline for completion. We are pleased to confirm that the new poles have now been installed, and service will be reinstated as soon as possible.
