There have been significant boosts to the prospects of redeveloping a trio of Mayo piers and harbours
It has been revealed that works on Rosmoney Pier, Cloghmore Pier, and Purteen Harbour have taken one step closer as the works for the harbours are set to go to tender.

Rosmoney Pier, situated in Clew Bay, is known by the sailing community in Mayo as the base for Mayo Sailing Club.
Last year, concerns were raised by Councillor Peter Flynn on the safety of the pier, and today’s news will be welcomed by all who use it.
“I think we’ve neglected the whole area of piers and harbours over the last number of years. It’s something that we need to focus on. They really are key assets to our county in terms of tourism, but also people in their day-to-day lives,” he stated at the July monthly meeting of the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District.
Another place where this development will be welcome is in Clare Island. Cloghmore Pier is the docking point of the ferry which services Clare Island from Achill.

Purteen Harbour is another vital asset to Achill Island, where many fishermen are based.
Alan Dillon, the Minister of State, was quick to welcome the announcement.
“These piers and harbours are really key assets to our county in terms of tourism, but also people in their day-to-day lives, and it is important that progress is made on these upgrade works,” he stated.
