Charity Croagh Patrick climb expected to draw big crowds

The Merry Monks/Nuns Climb will see crowds climb Croagh/Patrick

The people of Mayo have been invited to get their hiking boots and sacred garments on and get climbing on Saturday afternoon, as the Merry Monks/Nuns fundraising climb takes place on Croagh Patrick.

The novel event, in aid of the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice and Midwest Blood Bikes, will see around 50 people aim to reach the summit of the Reek in a ‘fun-raiser’.

Hikers will set off from the car park of Campbell’s Bar, Murrisk, at 12 noon. It’s anticipated that the climb will take between two and three hours.

Sign-in for the event is open at 11.45 am.

The organisation for the event is spearheaded by Manus Campbell, a familiar face who has been involved with a host of fundraising events around the West of Ireland.

After the climb, refreshments, ceol agus craic will be the order of the day in Campbell’s Bar, with a raffle and prizes for the best Monk/Nun.

The group, at the time of writing, is coming close to breaking their target of €2,000 in donations. Those wishing to donate any money, 100 percent of which will go to the two charities, can do so by clicking here.
