RIP: Tributes paid to Mayo man remembered for his humour, warmth and love of vintage cars

Tributes have been paid following the passing of Mayo man Liam Fahy, remembered by those who knew him as a true gentleman with a warm heart and a passion for vintage cars.

Liam, of “Gate Lodge”, The Quay, Westport, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, he is deeply mourned by his wife Eileen, children Graham, Brian, William and Michael, his grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and wide circle of friends.

Liam is fondly remembered for his kindness, good humour, and love of classic cars.

In a heartfelt tribute on RIP.ie, the Connacht Veteran & Vintage Motor Club described him as “a stalwart member of our club for many years always with a smile to greet you. In recent years whenever we’d a run in or around Westport, Liam would always come out to see us. He will be sorely missed.”

One family member wrote: “Liam always had a hidden bar of chocolate ready to share with us and was always happy to show us his vintage cars. Rest in peace, Uncle Liam, such a gentleman, you will be deeply missed.”

Another added: “He was a wonderful person whose humour and warmth touched many of our lives. Our hearts go out to you all during this difficult time. Please know that you are in our thoughts.”

Liam’s funeral Mass took place on Tuesday, April 1, in St Mary’s Church, Westport, followed by burial in Kilmaclasser Cemetery.
