Newport weather station recorded its lowest about of rainfall since 2013
NEWPORT weather station recorded the highest amount of rainfall in March of any weather station in Ireland - despite recording its driest March since 2013.
The west Mayo weather station was the rainiest station in Mayo in March, during which the whole country recorded milder and drier weather than usual.
According to Met Éireann’s March 2025 Climate Statement, Newport recorded 59mm of rain last month compared to a provisional nationwide average of 36.2 mm.
Thirteen stations across the country - including Knock - had their warmest March since 2012.
Knock recorded the lowest average temperature in the country from March at 7.5°C, which was 1.7°C above its long-term average temperature.
Belmullet, meanwhile, recorded the highest daily sunshine figure in the country, with 11.3 hours of sunshine recorded on Wednesday, March 19.
March 2025 in Ireland was the eighth warmest on record since 1900 and the warmest since 2012. The national average temperature last month was 8.55°C, which is 1.42°C above the most recent 1991-2020 long-term average.
