ALERT: Red warning issued for Mayo as Storm Éowyn to hit the county

A status red warning has been issued for Mayo with updates to follow

Met Èireann has now issued a status red wind warning for Mayo with updates to follow. It has earlier issued an orange wind warning for the county. 

The storm will bring severe, damaging and extremely destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h, Met Éireann warns.

The warning is valid from 2am on Friday 24/01/2025 to 10am on Friday 24/01/2025.

Met Éireann has set out possible impacts which include danger to life with "extremely dangerous driving conditions".

The alert warns of cancellation to events, coastal flooding in low-lying exposed areas, unsafe working conditions, impacts to communication networks and structural damages.

There is also possible disruptions and cancellations to public transport ahead of Storm Èowyn, the alert has stated.

Met Éireann urges people to beware of fallen trees as strong winds are set to hit the county.

Red warnings have also been issued for Counties Kildare, Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Roscommon Tipperary, Laois, Meath and Longford.
