Mayo County Council has signalled their intention to temporarily close multiple roads in Swinford across a two-month period as part of larger infrastructure works in the region.
The works, which are set to take place across both July and August, are anticipated to facilitate improvements to the electricity grid in the county as part of Eirgrid’s North Connacht110KV Interconnector Project.
The works revolve around two roads in the centre of the town.
The first section gets underway on Monday, July 13, and will run until Thursday, July 23. The Circular Road will be closed from the Main Street Junction to the Station Road junction.
Through traffic will be diverted via Main Street and Market Street, while local access for properties on Circular Road, Station Road, and Saint Ita’s Terrace will be available via Market Street and the Station Road junction.
From there, works will take place from Thursday, July 23, until Wednesday, August 12 on the portion of the Station Road between the Library Access Road and Saint Ita’s Terrace. This work will pause between Thursday, July 30, and Thursday, August 6, to facilitate the hugely popular Siamsa Sraide Festival in the town.
During this phase of works, through traffic is advised to use Main Street and Market Street.
Local access for those with properties on Circular Road and the Library Road via the Main Street-Circular Road junction. Local access to properties on Station Road and Saint Ita’s Terrace will be granted through the Station Road-Market Street Junction.
Phase Three will take place from Wednesday, August 12, to Thursday, August 20, on the remainder of Station Road. Through traffic is advised to use Main Street and Market Street.
