Mayo town hosts milestone international peace prayer service

A prayer service for peace took place on Friday, October 10, in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford.

The event brought together prayers from around the world, including a moving reflection by Rana Sunguk from Palestine. Prayers and reflections were also led by Fr. Dermot Meehan, Fr. Clement Akpanke, Rev. Andrea Wills, and representatives offering prayers for peace from the Quaker, Buddhist, and Jewish traditions.

Musical performances are led by the church choir, a solo by Christopher Woods of Comhaltas, and moving South American music performed by the Hernandez family from Nicaragua.

A highlight of the evening was the display of the Granny Squares for Gaza Blanket, a powerful community project in which each square represents ten children who have been killed in Gaza. The forty-metre-long blanket, created with the help of groups all over Ireland, including Swinford and Callow, served as a poignant symbol of remembrance and hope.
