Claremorris-Swinford Muncipal District approve disposal of site at Swinford Industrial Park

‘New dawn’ for Swinford as go-ahead given for site with potential for up to 30 new jobs

Swinford, County Mayo

The go-ahead for a new business at an industrial estate in Swinford has been welcomed as a positive development for the area.

Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District Council have formally proposed the disposal of a 1.065 site to MG Plant Spares, Ltd, Cloonlara, Old Dublin Road. The purchaser intends to build a facility that will create up to 30 jobs on sites 17 and 18 at Swinford Industrial Park. The company, operated by the Gleeson family, had paid a deposit for the site some time ago, but the matter was stalled due to legal complications.

It is expected that the disposal will receive full approval from Mayo County Council at their April meeting on Monday, April 14.

Cllr Adrian Forkan (Fianna Fáil) said the development marked ‘a new dawn’ for the industrial estate and said it may encourage the development of more new units there.

The Kiltimagh-based councillor proposed the disposal of the site at the monthly meeting of Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District, with Charlestown-based councillor Gerry Murray (Sinn Féin) seconding.
