MAYO SFL DIVISION 3 FINAL
Ardagh 1-13
Aghamore B 0-12
In Hastings Insurance MacHale Park
A superb second half performance from James Carr and Co resulted in the honours going the way of Ardagh as the North Mayo side came from behind to defeat Aghamore B in a competitive clash.
It was the East Mayo side who led at the break with former Mayo underage player, Ross Egan to the fore as he kicked seven of their nine points in the opening half. With the benefit of a strong wind, Aghamore led nine points to Ardagh’s four at the interval.
Ardagh’s captain Stephen Rochford came on at the changeover and the speedy attacker made a noticeable difference. After excellent forward play by James Carr, he teed up wing-back Tom Varkonda who scored to the net with a cool and precise finish.
With Lee Traynor and James Carr proving to be a handful, the men in black powered on as points from substitute Kevin Moran proved crucial when entering the final quarter.
In a somewhat low scoring affair, Ardagh won’t mind as they secured silverware much to the delight of the North Mayo contingent that celebrated after the whistle.
A full match report plus reaction will be carried in Tuesday’s edition of The Mayo News.
