The exodus of Mayo senior club managers is beginning to reach epic proportions. Already Martin Connolly (Westport), Peter Mulry and Michael Gaynard (Belmullet), John Reilly (Kilmeena), Tomas Morley (Ballaghaderreen), Martin Maloney (Garrymore) and Tom Mulderrig (Ballintubber) are among those to have stepped away from their roles.
A number of other announcements are expected in the coming days, while one of the best-known duos are said to have stepped away tonight.
The Mayo News understands that former Mayo midfielder Barry Moran and Neil Lydon have stepped away from their roles as joint-managers of their home club Castlebar Mitchels. Moran and Lydon guided Mitchels to two league titles and the knock-out stages of the championship each year of his tenure, but a one-point loss to eventual champions Ballina Stephenites this year ended their hopes of winning the club's 32nd county senior title.
