MAYO LGFA DIVISION 1 RELEGATION PLAY-OFF
Moy Davitts 1-4
Carnacon 2-9
FOXFORD
CARNACON produced an impressive team performance to ensure their position in the top tier of Mayo Ladies football when they out-gunned the home side in Foxford on Sunday morning.
Danny O'Toole's side were too strong for a talented and gallant Moy Davitts team who never stopped trying to do the right thing all the way to the end, but failed to escape the trap-door to the second division.
The Moysiders had the strong wind on their backs in the opening half but were only a point clear at half time. Avadh Gaughan hit an early goal for the women in white and red and it looked like they might build a wind-assisted lead. However, Carancon gradually took charge and a net-shaker from Louise Dowling helped Carnacon remain with a point of the hosts at the interval.
The women in green and red took charge in the third quarter as Amy Dowling landed two points and Cora Staunton added a goal and two.
There was no way back for Moy Davitts after that and although the home side never stopped looking for a way back into contention, they were fighting a losing battle.
Veteran midfielder Fiona McHale was brilliant from first whistle to last and caused Moy Davitts all sorts of problems.
A full match report and aftermatch reaction will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
