INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP 1

Lahardane MacHales 0-9

Crossmolina Deel Rovers 0-16

BOFEENAUN

A local derby will always make for good viewing, and the match-up between Lahardane and Crossmolina on Saturday evening was no different.

It was an extremely intense first half where neither team would let up. Hard hits and superb shooting were just some of the qualities on show.

The visitors got the better start and raced into a 0-7 to 0-4 lead by the 20th minute, thanks to some sharp shooting from James Maheady and the outstanding Fionan Duffy.

However, feeding off the energy from the large crowd that gathered in Bofeenaun to watch Lahardane, the men in black and amber clawed their way back into the game.

Three superb points, including an outside-of-the-boot beauty from Darragh Walsh, levelled the game.

A quick response in the 30th minute from Crossmolina's Niall Coggins, meant that as the halftime whistle sounded the Deel men led by a singular point, 0-8 to 0-7.

However, the men in maroon quickly showed why they are one of the favourites to win the intermediate title this year by dominating the second period.

The visitors kicked seven points without a reply, led by man-of-the-match, Fionan Duffy, who scored seven of his own throughout the 60 minutes.

The home side managed to point the last score of the game, before the final whistle sounded, ensuring Crossmolina would leave Bofeenaun with two precious points.

A full match report will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
