A Castlebar basketball team formed less than four years ago stand on the brink of being the first Mayo team to reach a national final since 2007.
Mayo Meteors will qualify for the BIDL plate final should they prevail in tomorrow’s semi-final.
Terry Kennedy’s side face a tough challenge in Cork’s Fr Matthews Basketball Club who competed in Division 1 last year.
It will be a big occasion for the Tourmakeady Sports Centre, which will host the game as the Meteors’ home venue, the De La Salle Hall, was unavailable.
“It’s a big game for us. We have a couple of injuries and suspensions at the moment but it’d be a big bonus if we could get the win,” Kennedy told The Mayo News.
A Mayo team last qualified for a national league final when a Ballina team featuring Liam McHale and Deora Marsh reached the final in 2007.
