ONE of the biggest sports fundraising projects in West Mayo is inviting all bingo fans to Knockranny House hotel on November 26 for family fun bingo.

Proceeds on the day will go towards the laying of a state-of-the-art tartan running track at Westport AC, which has seen its membership soar in recent months.

The club are currently using a 40-year-old gravel running track which is not conducive to sprinting.

Over €142,000 has already been raised for the project through fundraising and the generous sponsorship of local businesses.

Westport AC have also lodged an application to the Sports Capital Programme to obtain grant funding for the project.

The club also intends to make the entrances to the club more wheelchair friendly to make the facilities more inclusive and accessible.

Westport AC Chairperson Lisa Clarken told The Mayo News that there has been ‘huge buy-in’ to the project from local community groups and businesses.

“Everyone can see the benefits of it,” she added.

The club has seen its membership grow from 320 to 460 in recent months and recently had over 100 children represented in Mayo competitions.  

Doors will open for Westport AC’s Family Fun Bingo in Knockranny House Hotel at 3pm on Sunday, with the first game taking place at 3.30pm.

There will be prizes galore on offer sponsored by local businesses including, N5 Valet & Car Wash, Ealu Escape Rooms, Mayo Bowling, Tom McLoughlin Sports Massage, Republic of Fitness, Kids in Motion, Wild West, Westport Cinema, Blue Thunder €50, Croagh Patrick Stables, Grit - Fitness & Dance Studio, Nails by Emily and three months membership to Westport Leisure Park.
