Timely interventions from Lacken's Caelan Doris helped Ireland to an impressive Rugby World Cup win over Tonga in Nantes on Saturday night. Quick hands and perfect timing from the former Ballina RFC man sent Tadhg Beirne through for Ireland's opening try after 20 minutes and he then powered over himself seven minutes later from a rolling maul near the Tongan line.
The Irish were 31-13 clear at the interval and Jonathan Sexton became Ireland's recorder scorer when got over for a try just before half time. The Leinster man surpassed the previous record-holder Ronan O'Gara and looked on top of his game before he was substituted at the start of the second period.
Connacht's Bundee Aki was the star of the show with two tries and some outstanding link-up play.
The Irish squad will now look to take their good form into next weekend's highly-anticipated clash with South Africa which may prove pivotal to both team's hopes of ultimate glory.
