Oisin Mullin to play for Kilmaine on Sunday

Former inter-county star returns from Australia for championship clash

Mullin to play on Sunday

As football followers in Mayo gird their loins for another weekend of championship action one of the county's most exciting players will don his club's colours for the first time this year and stride into battle. Kilmaine may be headed for a relegation play-off and the result of Sunday's intermediate clash with Moy Davitts will not change that fate, however the South Mayo men will be boosted by the return of Oisin Mullin.

The former ‘Young Footballer of the Year’— who lined out with Geelong in the Australian Football League this season returned from Australia recently and has been training with Kilmaine this week.

Mullin has been listed at number 27 in the match programme for Sunday's game in Mayo Abbey and The Mayo News understands he will certainly play a part whether he lines out from the start or comes on as a sub. Kilmaine are still looking for their first win of the campaign following defeats at the hands of Crossmolina and Castlebar Mitchels B and the prospoect of Mullin getting game time on Sunday and then lining out in the club's upcoming relegation play-off is a huge boost for Tom Flynn's team.

Mullin's inclusion in Kilmaine's squad has the full blessing of Geelong's General Manager Simon Lloyd who confirmed that both he and Dingle's Mark O'Connor are free to play club football while back in Ireland during the off-season.

“Geelong Football Club are supportive of Mark and Oisin heading home to play for their GAA clubs and more importantly spending quality time with their family and friends in Ireland.

“With our season concluded for 2023, we wish both Mark and Oisin the best in their upcoming games and look forward to seeing how they go with their respective clubs.”

Sunday's game in Mayo Abbey throws in at 3.30pm with Moy Davitts looking to continue their unbeaten run and Kilmaine hoping to find form for the challenges to come.

The feel-good factor generated by Mullin's return is a timely boost given Kilmaine's big fundraising drive aimed at developing playing and training facilities at their club grounds on the edge of the village. The innovative project will transform the community facility and the prospect of walking away with a Fusion4 baler or €75,000 is the tempting prize on offer for the lucky winner.

Patrons can buy one ticket for €50 or three tickets for €100 to be in with a chance of winning. For more information see www.winafusion4.com.
