Mayo FC have confirmed that current Under-20 manager Anthony O'Neill has been appointed to the role of Senior manager for the upcoming 2026 League of Ireland National League campaign.

O'Neill will take the reins as the club continues to ramp up preparations for their entry into the third tier of soccer in the country later on in 2026.

O'Neill took charge of the club's underage side in October of 2025, guiding the fledgling prospects in their maiden Under-20 League of Ireland season.

The new man in the dugout has had a long and storied history in a myriad of roles in the game.

Late last year, the UEFA 'A' Coaching License holder vacated his position as Director of Football and first-team manager at Westport United to take on the challenge of the Under-20s.

O'Neill was also part of the coaching setup as Galway United First-Team Coach and Youth Head Coach, as well as holding a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management.

The club announced the news via a video on their social media channels, which can be viewed below:

"From the Atlantic coastline to the towns and communities that define us, this is County Mayo. Football has always had a home here. In every pitch, every parish, every supporter who never stops believing.

"Now, a new chapter begins. For the first time, Mayo takes its place on the national stage with a senior National League team that represents an entire county.

"A step forward, a new standard, a moment years in the making and with it, new leadership.

"A manager ready to guide this team into a new era, to bring ambition, identity and belief to everything we do. This isn't about starting over, it's about stepping up for the players, for the supporters, for Mayo.

"The journey begins now."

Mayo FC, who have developed steadily since their foundation in 2023, launched their hunt for a manager in early March.

In December of 2025, the club were announced as one of the 15 sides in the division, alongside Bonagee United (Donegal), CK United (Carlow/Kilkenny), Cockhill Celtic (Donegal), Home Farm (Dublin), Killarney Celtic (Kerry), Letterkenny Rovers (Donegal), Lucan United (Dublin), Mervue United (Galway), Newbridge Town (Kildare), Salthill Devon (Galway), St. Francis (Dublin), TU Dublin (Dublin), UCC Soccer (Cork), and Villa FC (Waterford).
