Westport United claimed the U18 Girls’ Connacht Cup title on Sunday afternoon, after a comprehensive victory over Arrow Harps of Sligo in Headford.
A scintillating opening half performance from the west Mayo women, was enough to secure the title.
The Covies opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, when Katie Hughes got the first of her three goals, after neat build up play from the black and red.
Aoibhinn McNamara doubled Westport’s lead 12 minutes later, when she found herself in behind the Sligo side’s defence.
On the stroke of half-time, Hughes grabbed her second goal, following a brilliant finish inside the Arrow Harps penalty box.
The ever-impressive striker, Hughes, got her hat trick minutes into the second half, after another exquisite finish inside the penalty area from the Mayo ladies’ underage Gaelic footballer.
