New Mayo FC boss Anthony O'Neill.
THE transformation and development of Mayo FC took a huge leap forward this week with the appointment of Anthony O'Neill as manager of the club's U-20 League of Ireland squad.
The Mayo News understands that O'Neill, put pen to paper over the past few days, and the appointment is a massive signal of intent by the young club hoping to bring adult League of Ireland football to the county.
Mayo FC chairman, Joe Faughnan, hailed the news and said it was a hugely historic day for the club. “We're hugely ambitious here in Mayo FC and Anthony shares our vision of the future. We're delighted to have someone of Anthony's quality guiding our players and taking us forward into the future.”
O'Neill has stepped up to Mayo FC after serving as Director of Football at Westport United for the past year where he also managed the club's first-team. He has an impressive background in football and is a UEFA A License holder.
His career spans multiple levels of football management and coaching. His journey includes time at Galway United FC, where he held roles as First Team Coach and Youth Head Coach and has developed a reputation for nurturing young talent and implementing effective coaching strategies. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management.
