The Mayo soccer season in 2026 is set for a bit of a revamp, after the League Management Committee have announced a new structure for the Super League's upcoming campaign.

The soccer season produced plenty of excitement across all four divisions this campaign, with Castlebar Celtic strengthening their iron grip on the domestic scene with a flawless campaign to end top of the pile in the top flight.

However, next season, they'll have to do it in a new system. This year, the league was run in a typical 18-game format, with all nine sides playing one another twice, once at home and once away.

Next year, it'll be different, with a 'split-season' format being used. The first half of the season sees each team play one another once.

The second half of the season will see the top five teams and the bottom five teams split into two 'mini-leagues.' At that stage, sides will play each other twice each, once at home and once away.

The Premier League, League One, and League Two will remain unchanged, as well as the current promotion/relegation systems.

There has also been a change in the rules regarding the eligibility of players for 'A' and 'B' teams.

Firstly, 'A' teams must name a minimum of 18 players for each game.

Secondly, 'A' teams can only use three 'B' team players in any one game. Also, when a registered 'B' team player plays five times with the club's 'A' side, he automatically becomes an 'A' team player and cannot continue to play for the 'B' team.

The Super and Premier Cups will retain the same format, as will the Divisional cups (Benson Cup, Tonra Cup etc).

The Mayo League season is set to kick off all over again on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
