One Mayo school will be aiming to secure two trophies in two different sports within a week of each other, as they head off to the AVIVA Stadium for the FAI Schools Primary 5 national finals.

Last Wednesday, the girls from Lankill National School were to the fore as they defeated Lisaniska National School on a scoreline of 5-10 to 4-3 in the Division Four Cumann na mBunscol finals in MacHale Park, Castlebar.

Now, seven days on, the girls in green will be packing away their schoolbags and copybooks and setting off in search of sporting glory once more. This time, Irish soccer HQ is the destination, and the Lankill girls will be making the trip from Aughagower, looking to add to their Gaelic football success.

The team features two twins, as Shona and Karla Gibbons line out alongside Abbie and Sophie Collins.

The first pair showed an eye for the target in MacHale Park last weekend, as Karla scored 1-4 of her side’s tally, with twin sister Shona scoring a point of her own.

This will be the school’s first time strutting their stuff in the ‘A’ Girls Cup. They’ll be going toe-to-toe with Kilkenny side Saint Leonard’s National School, Dunnamaggin, Coimín National School from Donegal, and Tipperary’s Cloughjordan National School.

The action in Landsdowne Road gets underway from 11.30 am.
