Moyne Villa, managed by a Mayo man and with a number of Mayo players will be hoping for Galway cup glory this afternoon.
MAYO'S team manager Joe Kelly is hoping to grab Galway cup glory today when his Moyne Villa side take on Galway Hibernians in the Michael O'Byrne Cup Final in Eamonn Deacy Park.
Kelly, who guided Mayo to the Oscar Traynor Cup Final in 2024 and the semi-final earlier this season has been in charge of Moyne Villa since late 2024 and will be hoping to see them lift the prestigious trophy later this afternoon. The Headford-based club are enjoying a stellar season in their first term back in the top division since 2001. They finished third in the league behind Galway powerhouses Salthill Devon and Mervue United and reached the Connacht Cup semi-final.
Kelly isn't the only Mayo man involved in Moyne Villa's impressive season as the team is backboned by a number of players from this side of the border such as Adam Barrett, Luke Jennings, Darragh Forde and Adam Nugent, who is currently injured.
Galway Hibs, who are managed by current Galway United player Stephen Walsh have been beaten twice this season by Moyne Villa in the league, but Kelly and his men will be taking nothing for granted in a match which promises to be a very tight affair. The action gets underway at 2pm.
