MENS ROUNDUP: Goal tsunami in unprecedented Mayo soccer weekend
Fahy Rovers found out that doing that may be easier said than done as they recorded a 14-0 loss to the reigning champions.
Louise Dowling got the ball rolling in the sixth minute, before nine players in all got in on the act as the newly-formed Fahy side endured a tough day at the office.
Starters Alannah Keaveney, Róisín Kelly, and Saoirse Mahon all scores twice for Town, while substitutes Grace McHale, Oliwia Losiak, and Emma Lavelle also notched a pair of goals.
Manulla, who will be looking to avenge the only blot in their otherwise spotless 2024 calendar, got off to a good start as they dispatched another new side to the party, Achill Rovers.
Aoife Brennan and Lauren McClellan were to the fore with braces for hosts Manulla as they powered to a 5-0 win.
Glenhest Rovers made history as it was the first time the club fielded a senior women’s side competitively. Alanagh Daly may have levelled the game following Kayla Salami’s opener for Ballina Town. However, they couldn’t hold out, and a Salami-led Ballina Town cruised to a 6-1 win.
Three first-half goals for Swinford, including a quick-fire brace from Ciara Forkan, paved the way for a 4-0 victory over Straide and Foxford United.
Lastly, Killala and Conn Rangers couldn’t break the deadlock at half-time. However, Alva Munnelly’s strike five minutes after the changeover proved enough to secure progression to the quarter-finals for the Killala women.

The Under-19s followed up their 4-2 win over Longford Town two weeks ago with an assured defensive performance to secure a draw on their home patch over St Patrick’s Athletic.
The point from the St Pat’s game moves the Green and Red level with Sunday’s opponents on points in the table, albeit trailing on goal difference.
