BELMULLET native Ronan Murray has returned to the League of Ireland after joining with Dundalk FC as a strength and conditioning coach.

Murray, who enjoyed a long professional soccer career in England, scored 11 goals in 34 appearances for the Lilywhites when they captured the league and FAI Cup in 2018.

The former Iorras Aontaithe striker recently moved back to the east coast with his wife, who hails from Silverbridge in Armagh. He then contacted Dundalk manager, Ciarán Kilduff, to let him know he was available, which in turn led to his appointment as their strength and conditioning coach.

“It feels absolutely brilliant to be back, a bit surreal that I’ve been away for so long and been out of the League of Ireland for three years or so. To be back is just absolutely fantastic,” Murray said after his appointment was announced.

“It feels like I’ve never been away, and the facilities have got even better since I was here. I’m just absolutely delighted and proud to be back.”

After playing professional soccer for a number of clubs in both Ireland and the UK, Murray moved home to Mayo a few years ago, where he has worked as a personal trainer. A talented Gaelic footballer, he has also starred for the Belmullet in the Mayo Senior Football Championship in recent seasons.

His new club will be competing in the SSE Airtricity First Division after being relegated from the top tier earlier this year.
