In Cloonfad

Castlebar Celtic had a routine win in Cloonfad to advance to the fourth round of the FAI Junior Cup and a trip to Ashling Anacotty in Limerick, in two weeks’ time.

The game opened with a sprinkling of heavy tackles and referee, Ger Carmody, who had an excellent game, issued seven yellow cards in the first half.

Jason Hunt opened the scoring with a shot from distance, which unexpectedly made its way past PJ Donellan in the Cloonfad goal fifteen minutes into the contest. Dylan Edwards doubled the advantage with a sweet free kick direct to the net on twenty-three minutes. Paul Walsh added a third just before the whistle when he pounced on the rebound of Johnny Cocozza’s shot off the upright to send Celtic to the dressing room in control of the tie.

Jason Hunt narrowly beat the offside line to add his second on fifty-three, and Eoghan Hughes finished well for a fifth goal ten minutes later.

Despite the scoreline, Cloonfad defended grittily, but were overrun in midfield, and had little up front, while Celtic never moved above second gear.
