Castlebar Celtic retained their Super League title before this game kicked off, when Ballyheane dropped points at home to Claremorris on Sunday morning. That didn’t cause them to take their foot of the pedal at CMS Park however, putting five past a strong Kiltimagh Knock United side.
It took Celtic a while to score despite relentless pressure.
Basho Hay was outstanding in the first half for Celtic, and his cross to Jordan Loftus eventually saw the breakthrough to send the champions in a goal to the good at the break.
In the second half, KKU defender, Dylan Roache, scored an outstanding goal when he met Cormac Caulfield’s free-kick to send an unstoppable header past Stefan Hester to equalise.
Fionn Mahon shot Celtic in front again – the first of three Celtic goals in a devastating six-minute period for KKU.
Dylan Edwards calmly added a third, and Johnny Cocozza - just back from a year in Australia - set up Loftus for his second. Robert Jordan reduced the arrears for KKU before Gavin Forry made it five, to emphasise Celtic’s superiority.
