A Crossmolina team that lost 13-0 when they met Westport United in United Park earlier this season celebrated after snatching a draw against the same opposition this evening - a draw which moves them one point further away from the relegation zone.

The eighth-placed team in the Mayo Super League put in an impressive display in a game where chances weren't plentiful but still provided lots of entertainment.

Crossmolina took the fight to the West Mayo lads immediately, executing a high press that made life tough for their guests.

Third-choice Crossmolina goalkeeper, Niall McDonnell, made the switch from outfield to Number 1 and made some fine saves on the rare occasion 'United got the better of defence well-guarded by Kevin Campbell, Stuart Griffin and Martin Deady.

The hosts came close on occasion too, with Mayo Minor Oisín Deane showing well up front.

There was little to seperate them throughout, therefore a scoreless draw was probably the fairest result on the night.

A delighted Crossmolina celebrated gaining a point that could go very far in keeping them in the top tier of Mayo soccer with two rounds left.

A full report, plus reaction will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
