The sun was beaming down on United Park as Westport United defeated Ballyheane for the first time since 2020.

Westport struggled to break down the visitors, who often played with ten behind the ball, however, they managed to find a breakthrough with 24 minutes on the clock.

Harrison Quinn sent an excellent ball into the box, which Evan Durkan managed to touch down to Kevin Kitterick. Kitterick fired the ball into the roof of the net to give the Covies the lead.

Westport saw out the first half, leaving the scoreline at the interval 1-0 in favour of the home side.

The Covies managed to score a hat trick of goals in the second half. The first came after 52 minutes when Noah Massey found himself one-on-one with John Vahey and made no mistake in slotting the ball home.

Westport's third goal came in the 69th minute. Harrison Quinn squared the ball to Dan O’Malley, who fired the ball into the back of the net.

Ballyheane were unable to create any real chance in the second period, while Westport managed to make it 4-0 with 79 minutes played. Substitute, Cian Halpin, found the back of the net after some good play from the home team, to wrap up the victory, and maintain the second position in the Mayo Super League.
