CASTLEBAR Celtic’s appeal against the replaying of the Connacht Junior Cup semi-final has been set for June 7.
The club are to appeal the ruling that their win over Salthill Devon must be replayed after the Connacht Football Association (FA) appointed Mayo officials to referee Castlebar Celtic’s 1-0 over the Galway side.
Following an appeal from Salthill Devon The Connacht FA subsequently ordered that the match be replayed. The ruling was made on the grounds that the Connacht FA had breached its own rules stating that Connacht Junior Cup games must be refereed by officials outside the competing clubs’ counties.
It is understood that the matter had been brought to the attention of the Mayo Football League and the Connacht FA prior to the game between v and Salthill Devon.
Castlebar Celtic are understood to be appealing on the grounds that they were not at fault for appointing Mayo officials to referee the fixture.
The decision on Celtic’s appeal is expected to be issued within days of the hearing.
