Caelan Doris missed out on selection for the Lions. Here, he he picks up his 2014 U-17 Connacht Plate winners medal from the late Gerry O'Donnell after Ballina defeated Tuam in Ballyhaunis.
THERE is a huge sense of disappointment in Mayo sporting circles today after Lacken's Caelan Doris was not named in the British & Irish Lions squad for this summer's tour of Australia.
The man who began his rugby journey in Ballina RFC was tipped to be named captain of the touring party but an injury picked up on Saturday, during Leinster's defeat at the hands of Northampton, means that he misses out, as he did four years ago.
It's understood Doris had a surgical procedure on his shoulder in the past few days in the hope of being fit for the Lions campaign, but the injury won't be resolved in time for him to take part in the tour.
However, there was joy for two Connacht players with Bundee Aki and Mack Hansen being selected by head-coach Andy Farrell.
