A proud moment for the Castlebar Rugby Club: Jimmy Staunton was elected as President of Connacht Rugby for the upcoming season 2024/25. Staunton will be the first Castlebar RFC man to hold that office in the club's 139-year history.

"We are delighted. We wish him all the best," said Castlebar RFC President Kevin McGing: "Jimmy is a long standing member. He has played for Castlebar, he managed, served as president, sponsor or fundraiser and is still helping out."

Staunton's appointment is a a great honour for himself and for his family, as children and two brothers are involved with Castlebar RFC.

The evening Staunton was elected, the club went up with a delegation and celebrated the historic occasion together with him.

"Jimmy is a very generous person. Hard working and with a can-do attitude. A great example to everybody else," said current McGing.
