Mayo musician sadly missed by many after recent death

John Henry, Crossard, Tooreen, Mayo, RIP

John Henry, Crossard, Tooreen, Mayo, who died recently in Castlebar Hospital, was a member of a well known family in the Tooreen region.

The Henry brothers were synonymous with the music scene in former times and played around the Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo areas during the heyday of the pub lounge scene.

They were known at different times as The Evening Stars and The Entertainers and provided music for dancing in all the big lounges around the region.

Martin Walshe from nearby Erritt, Gorthaganny, who played with the Henry brothers bands on a regular occasion as drummer and singer, said he had fond memories of the many times John travelled with them to see his family band perform.

John was a gentle soul of quiet disposition who was held in fond regard by all who knew him. The community extends condolences to the Henry family at this sad time.

Reposing was at Donnellan’s Funeral Home with removal to St Mary’s Church, Tooreen, with interment in Aghamore cemetery following the funeral Mass.

John, who was predeceased by his parents Jimmy and Mary, will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his brothers Martin (Galway), Seamus (Ballyhaunis), Michael (Crossard), Kieran (Crossard), Padraic (Kilmovee) and Dermot (Crossard), his sister Maresa (Kilbrogan), aunt Bernie Reilly (Leicester), sisters-in-law Mary-Kathleen, Eileen and Angela, Seamus’s partner Ann-Marie, brother-in-law Bernard, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
