Seán Healy, Derryvackna and Cloongoonagh, Tooreen, Mayo RIP

Seán Healy, Derryvackna and Cloongoonagh, Tooreen, Mayo, and Swords, Dublin, who died recently in the Ave Maria Nursing Home, Tooreen, was a member of a well known and prominent family in the Tooreen region down through the years.

He was an uncle of Noelle Healy who won five All Ireland senior medals with Dublin and the overall Player of the Year in 2017. She is an anaesthetist at St Vincent’s hospital in Dublin.

One of his brothers, Noel, is also well known on the music scene in the Meath, Louth and Kildare region.

Seán was a cherished member of the staff at Dublin and Fingal County Councils and was held in the highest regard by his colleagues and many friends.

The quality of the tributes paid to Seán reflects the special place he had in the hearts of so many people.

Willie Sheils commented: “He was a true gentleman and a wonderful colleague and friend in Dublin County Council and Fingal over many years, not to mention a great footballer too in his day.”

Vincent and Mary Henry, Tooreen and Galway, said: “Seán was an absolute gentleman, both at school and, more recently, even in the throes of his illness.”

Eimer McKenna stated: “Seán was a man of rare integrity, warmth, and generosity, someone who made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.”

Teresa Cusack said she worked alongside Sean for many years in the Finance Department. “He was a very loyal colleague who was generous with his knowledge and had a kind word for everyone.”

Caroline McGrane from Fingal Co Council recalled how Seán was a book of knowledge.

“He was very hard working. He told me his dream was to retire and work the family farm where he spent his free time.”

Tommie McManus said Seán will always be remembered as a wonderful, hardworking colleague in Dublin and Fingal County Council.

“Over a long career in local government, he truly left his mark for the benefit of the community. He had a wicked sense of humour and was a proud Mayo man to the core.”

Reposing was in Gavin's Funeral Home and interment took place in Aghamore cemetery following the funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, Tooreen.

Seán is survived by his son James, daughter Frances, their mother Peggy, his brothers Seamus, Joe, Richard and Vincent (Australia), his sisters Mary, Margaret, Kathleen (London), Teresa, Breda and Bernadette, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
