Bridie Devane, Ballyglass, Scardaune, Mayo, RIP
The death took place recently of Bridie Devane, Ballyglass, Scardaune.
Her passing evoked much sadness around the borderline of Mayo and Galway, where Bridie was such a popular person.
She was the essence of a good neighbour, always there to lend a helping hand and advice, and so many people from this region remember her with the greatest of affection.
The Devane family were always full of nature and goodness and came from a truly special generation of rural people who always looked out for their neighbours.
The gentle memories of those times still linger in the memories of neighbours who recall a lady who was such a part of their younger years. May Kearns (Whelan), formerly of Leface, Ballindine, was among those joining in the tributes.
“Bridie was a wonderful and kind lady and great neighbour in times gone by. She was always smiling and she will be missed by all who knew her.”
Edel Heaney from Ballyglass commented: “Bridie was a gentle and kind lady and she will be missed in Ballyglass.”
Brian and Margaret Healy, Farmhill, reflected: “Bridie was a true lady with a wonderful sense of humour. We have great memories of her visits to Farmhill.”
Reposing was at Carey’s Funeral Home, Ballindine, on Wednesday evening, with removal to St Patrick’s Church, Ballyglass.
Interment took place in the local cemetery following the funeral Mass on Thursday.
Bridie, who was predeceased by her brothers John James, Billy and Pete Devane, and nephews Pat and Sean Devane, will be sadly missed by her sister Mary Kate, nephews Paul, Billy, Noel, nieces Marian and Cathy, relatives, kind neighbours, carers and friends.
