'Void that can't be replaced' - tributes to Mayo man on passing

BRENDAN Cunnane, Culmore, Kilkelly, Mayo, who died last week, was formerly from Adrigoole, Knock. He was a member of a well known and prominent family from the parish of Knock.

Brendan, who was in his early 70s, had strong connections with Cork and Limerick and spent many years down south. He was a past pupil of St Jarlath’s College, Tuam, and had a wide connection of friends around the country.

Several warm tributes have been paid to Brendan in recent days. Dan Loughrey said they were good friends during their time in St Jarlath’s College: “I recall we started a weekly newsletter together, News View, and we had many stirring debates on what should be included and excluded each week.”

Caroline McGing commented when expressing condolences to the family: “There are no words to take the pain of your loss. You are all in my prayers. Brendan was a gentleman and has left a void that cannot be replaced.”

Reposing was at the family home on Tuesday with removal on Thursday morning to St Celsus Church, Kilkelly, for Mass, followed by burial afterwards in Knock Cemetery.

Brendan, who was predeceased by his wife Teresa, his daughters Mary and Deirdre, and his brothers Padraig, Tom and Seán, will be sadly missed by his sons Andy, Joe and Brendan, grandchildren Alba and Martha, daughter-in-law Lorea, brothers Joe, Michael, Ciarán, and Eamon, sister Mary (Biesty), Anne Marie (Perry), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
