There was a very popular winner on Tuesday evening, July 22 in Ballinrobe when ‘Only One Plan’ secured first place in the David Heneghan Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

The race that went off at 17.42 was an exciting watch for many as the horse owned by Ballinrobe businessman, Michael Cawe, finished in first place. Not only is the horse owned by a local, he is also trained by another well known Ballinrobe figure in Michael Flannery. Flannery had also secured a winner in April when Tomas O’Maille won at his local track.

This recent win represents another success for the Ballinrobe duo. Jockey Conor Owens, wearing the green and red colours representing Michael Cawe, came home in front at odds of 7/1 much to the delight of many racegoers.

There was a huge crowd present at the Mayo racecourse for the second day of the annual two-day July meeting. The next meeting of the Ballinrobe Races will take place on Monday, August 11, where an evening of National Hunt racing will take place with the first going to post at 5.15pm.
