Winner at Mayo racecourse all set for the big stage at Royal Ascot

Carmers, pictured winning at Ballinrobe Racecourse last month, bids for glory this afternoon at Royal Ascot.

A racehorse who made a winning debut at Mayo's only racecourse goes for glory at the world famous Royal Ascot meeting this afternoon.

Carmers, who is trained by in-form Co Tipperary based trainer Paddy Twomey, is strongly fancied to go well in the Group Two Queen's Vase over the 1m 6f trip.

The three-year-old made a belated racecourse debut at Ballinrobe just over five weeks ago when he was an easy winner of the West Tyre maiden.

He has since gone on to win a Listed event at Navan and the unbeaten colt is now second favourite at 9-2 for the Queen's Vase, which is due off this afternoon at 3.05pm.

Ballinrobe Racecourse have taken to social media to wish connections the very best of luck.
