Two people have been arrested following the discovery of a growhouse in county Monaghan this Tuesday.
As part of ongoing investigations into the sale and distribution of drugs, gardaí in Monaghan have arrested a man and a woman and seized suspected cannabis plants and dried herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €88,000 during a search of a premises on Tuesday, September 17.
During the course of the search of a residence under warrant in Castleblayney, a growhouse was discovered containing 50 cannabis plants, with a street value of €42,000, as well as €46,000 worth of dried cannabis herb and €1,000 worth of MDMA (all subject to analysis), a garda spokesperson said.
The operation was carried out by local gardaí, assisted by the members from Community Engagement Monaghan, Crime Unit Monaghan and Divisional Drugs Unit.
The drugs seized will now undergo further analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.
The man and woman, both aged in their 30s, were arrested in connection with the investigationare detained at a Garda station in the county Monaghan area pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.
