Young Irishman, 20, fighting in Ukraine missing and presumed dead

A young Irishman, 20, who was serving on Ukraine’s frontline is missing and presumed dead.

Alex Ryzhuk from Rathmines, Dublin, had been fighting as a volunteer with the Ukrainian forces in the east of the country but it is understood he was reported missing in recent weeks.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.

“As with all consular cases, the department does not comment on the details of individual cases,” they said.

The Irish Times first reported that the young man was presumed dead, following a suspected Russian drone attack.
