A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 27-year-old mother of two, whose body was found at an apartment in Midleton, Co Cork, on Friday afternoon.
The man (29) is being detained in Midleton Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The woman – a 27-year-old mother of two – was discovered after gardaí and paramedics were called to a property in Midleton town centre shortly after 4pm today.
Gardaí have said they are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the woman's death, after she was found with serious injuries at an apartment off Main Street in the town at around 4.15pm.
The woman, who is believed to have lived in the apartment, received emergency medical attention at the scene. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
Units of Cork Fire Brigade were at the scene within minutes on Friday afternoon as smoke was seen billowing from the roof of the two-storey property.
Emergency services dealt with the fire to prevent it spreading to other adjacent buildings.
Initial indications are that the woman did not die as a result of the blaze, with injuries visible to emergency services personnel which were inconsistent with a fire.
Gardaí confirmed in a statement that investigations are ongoing.
