A teenage boy was arrested by armed Gardaí last night following a domestic dispute during which he allegedly engaged in threatening and abusive behaviour and produced an imitation firearm.

The incident happened at a family home in a quiet estate in east Cork, where local gardaí quickly engaged in a standoff with the teenager.

The teenager also reportedly threatened a family member with the BB gun.

Uniform Gardai attended at the scene in an estate in the town at around 7pm, assisted by the District Detective Unit and the Regional Armed Support Unit.

The family home was cordoned off by gardaí at the scene as the teenager refused to drop the BB gun during a standoff.

Gardai eventually entered negotiations with the armed teen, and shortly after he tossed the weapon out of a window.

The teen was arrested by members of the Armed Support Unit on suspicion of engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour, and is now being held at Togher Garda Station on the southside of Cork city under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Thankfully, nobody at the scene was injured and no shots were fired.

Investigations are ongoing, and the youth is expected to be questioned this morning.
